Britney Spears - 'Britney'
Its hard to believe but its Britney Spears' third album already! Her rise to fame has been phenominal since she filled a niche in a market for a sexy teen singer who young girls look upto. Yes that is a bizarre niche, but as Britney is testament to, its very lucrative.
Now Britney is growing up fast but as she says she is not yet a woman. She is out of the girly giggly phase and into wearing riske clothes, like when she performed half clothed and with a python to boot.
Although her image is changing her songs are not, she is still singing those fluffy bubbly dance-pop songs. Paired with long time Swedish collaborators Max Martin and Rami she continues to make songs which sound like NSYNC rejects. Lets just say songs like Overprotected, Cinderella and Bombastic are not the songs she will be remembered for.
On this album she covers Joan Jett's I Love Rock 'N' Roll, no one seems to see the irony of this song sung in pop.
The songs that are good on this album Britney Spears co-wrote, here i think where her strength lies and people dont usually recognise this. The songs Lonely and Let Me Be and Boys have an edge to them. Something to compare these songs to Britney's previous work would be to look at the song Oops I Did It Again.
And on a touching note, boyfriend Justin Timberlake sings backup on the alast song of the album What It's Like To Be Me, which he co-wrote.
